An Unlikely Mother

Have you ever been pushed beyond what you thought were your limits? Someone believed in you, and you dug deep and found the strength and resilience needed to accomplish the task, overcome the obstacles and endure the situation.

We might think the perfect child, Jesus, would require the perfect family. But Mary was young, poor, and unknown. All in all, not most people’s top choice to give birth to the Savior of the world. However, this unlikely girl was chosen not for her qualifications but her heart.

God sees the heart for what it truly is, and in Mary He saw the courage, obedience, and faithfulness that would overcome the many challenges that lay ahead. It’s the same for us. God doesn’t call us because of our popularity or wealth, but because He knows what we are equipped for.

Now none of us are giving birth to the Savior, but He does have a plan for you and that plan is formed from what God sees in you. Then He sets you in a place where He can use you to be part of His Kingdom work.

It doesn’t matter how unlikely you think you are for the task assigned. Mary was forced to leave home, give birth in a stable, flee to Egypt, and witness the death of her son on the cross. No one would have guessed she would be up to the task, but God knows who we truly are and uses us in wonderful and unimaginable ways.

God’s plans for you may be hard, but remember that He knows you and will give you the strength to not only endure, but to triumph.
