Strength for the battle every believer must fight

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

Spiritual warfare is not a superstition, a myth, or a metaphor — it is an undeniable reality. Demons are real. Satan is real. Angels are real. There is a battle unfolding all around us, one that most people never see but everyone experiences the effects of. The fight is between the forces of darkness and the forces of light, with human souls as the prize.

Demons — angels who long ago turned against God — work relentlessly to deceive, discourage, distract, and destroy. They seek to keep unbelievers trapped in spiritual blindness and drag believers into doubt and unbelief. If you scan today’s headlines, you’ll see the fingerprints of this invisible war on full display in the visible world.

Ephesians 6:10–20 reminds us that we are not defenseless. God has given us His impenetrable armor, designed so that every believer can stand firm against Satan’s attacks. But to walk in victory, we must first recognize the battle, and then we must prepare for it.

Don’t underestimate the enemy

One of Satan’s greatest strategies is convincing people he doesn’t exist. Some Christians swing too far and sensationalize spiritual warfare, turning it into theatrics. But far more minimize it — acting as if it doesn’t really matter. This is just as dangerous. Imagine living in a neighborhood where a lion roams freely. If you fail to recognize the threat, you will become its next meal.

Scripture gives a clear warning:

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

Awareness doesn’t mean fear — it means readiness. Just as a soldier wouldn’t step into battle unarmed, neither should believers face the day without spiritual preparation.

Five disciplines to strengthen your soul

God has not left you powerless. He has equipped you with His armor and given you practical ways to strengthen your heart and mind. The following practices will help you stay grounded in Christ and empower you to resist the enemy’s schemes:

  1. Worship – Giving God His rightful place shifts your focus from fear to faith. Worship isn’t only about singing; it’s declaring with your life that God is worthy.

  2. Reading Scripture – God’s Word teaches, corrects, and equips you for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16–17). When you read Scripture, you learn who God is, what He calls you to, and how to align your life with His truth.

  3. Prayer Journaling – Writing down your prayers helps you pour out your heart to God, just as the psalmists did. It also helps you see His faithfulness over time.

  4. Meditation & Memorization – Hiding God’s Word in your heart equips you to resist temptation, like Jesus in the wilderness. A daily practice of meditating — or focusing your mind — on Scripture will deepen your roots in His truth.

  5. Obedience – True strength comes when you live out what Jesus commanded. Obedience keeps you in step with the Spirit and shields you from compromise.

When these practices become habits, you are battle ready.

Remember, we don’t fight for victory; we fight from the victory Christ has already secured at the cross.

Fight the good fight

The war is real, but so is our hope.

In Christ, you are equipped, protected, and empowered to stand firm. Don’t wait until the enemy strikes — prepare now. Choose one of these practices today, commit to it, and begin to strengthen your soul for the battles ahead.

Be strong in the Lord. Put on your armor. And fight the good fight of faith, knowing the victory has already been won.
