This is going to be a tough week. Although I’m on the road A LOT, I’m very rarely gone for a full week. This is one of those rare stretches of extended time of back-to-back ministry stuff like:
- A Columbus area Youth Leader Training Lunch
- Two fundraising events
- Youth Ministry Executive Council in DC (top youth ministry leaders brainstorming about reaching every teen in the country for Jesus…cool stuff)
- A Youth Leader Training Conference in DC
- Various meetings with the President and key Senators (just kidding!)
Pray that this week goes well, not just for me, but for my family while I’m gone.
Pray for my loving, patient, compassionate and courageous wife, Debbie, as she manages a packed schedule and two very active children (5 year old Jeremy and 19 month old Kailey) while I’m gone.
I have a love/hate relationship with travel. On one hand I’m a road warrior. There’s something about airports, rental cars and mapquesting the closest Starbucks with wifi that energizes me. I write a lot on the road. It’s a great time to brainstorm, create and think.
On the other hand I hate leaving my wife and kids at home. I miss taking my family to parks and playing “Bad Tiger-Good Tiger” (don’t ask) with the kids.
Maybe I should buy an RV like Robin Williams in his latest ha-ha film. We could pack the Stier clan on the road and experience America up close and personal.
On second thought…no. Too many speeding tickets. Too many “are we there yet’s”. Too many weird roadside greasy spoons (do I hear the sound of dueling banjo’s playing in the background?)
Instead of the whole RV thing I’ll just try to plan shorter trips in the future.
